18 September 2004

We're pleased to welcome Rev Gordon Steer as our Pastor. The Service of induction was conducted by Rev Dr Glyn Prosser, who has been the Moderator for the past four years, and the address was by the Regional Minister for the Baptist Union, Rev Norman Tharby. Greetings were brought from Gordon's previous fellowship.

1 September 2004

At long last, we have finished the refurbishment of the manse, and our new pastor moves in. Rev Gordon Steer was inducted to the pastorate on 18th September, joining us after a short spell as an active member at Turner's Hill Free Church near East Grinstead.

28th June 2005 - An Evening of Photography

An open evening was held at the church aimed at helping us all to make the most of our holiday snaps. Whether we use new fangled digital technology or old fangled film - we all got some great hints and tips to make holiday memories more precious.

As a keen and experienced amateur photographer, Gordon led us through the basics of picture composition like making sure we're not taking pictures of our own shadows, and gave us some great pointers to make photos look more interesting and to help bring back better memories.

We also experimented with the effects that varying lighting can make; it's amazing how many different moods and effects can be created just by moving the lights around when portraits are being taken.

There'll be another session in the autumn - more details when available.

23rd April 2005 - Baptist Union Assembly at the Birmingham ICC

The Baptist Union Assembly was held in Birmingham this year, and since the Baptist World Alliance Congress will be held in Birmingham later this year, it was only one day. See the BU Assembly website. We had a great time celebrating the diversity of the Baptist Fellowship, from Birmingham to Bradford, Bristol to Bury St Edmunds and Cornwall to Cape Wraith. The Music and worship ranged from the total calm of the Northumbrian Community to hard street Rap. Great Fun!

24th-27th March 2005 - Easter

Thursday 24th March 7.30 pm.

We joined in a bring and share meal / service with the the other churches of Knaphill. About 40 people ate together, before Gordon Steer led a short communion Service.

Friday 25th March 10.00 am.

A Silent Walk of Witness was held with the other churches of Knaphill from the Roman Catholic Church to the Parish Church, Holy Trinity, in Chobham Road. Led by a cross carried high, about 60 people heard short readings that were shared at a number of locations though the village, before joining with many other for a thought provoking serice in Holy Trinity.

20 March 2005 - Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday was an opportunity for musical gifts to shine through. Following weeks of practise, our small music group presented a performance of "Messiah Easter Praise", a simple musical produced by Love Russia. The musical dramatised the story of a classical instrument maker and his musical instruments who discover old testament writings about the Messiah. Excited by their discoveries about Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem as King the instruments go on an Easter parade to celebrate. As they discover what happens to the Messiah the mood of the parade dramatically changes. To add to the drama an orphan falls down a well and the instruments make excuses as to why they can't help. Aid comes from the least expected source and then comes the great news about the Messiah - the parade is on once again!

The simple set

Asaph the instrument maker was ably mimed by our Pastor, and the small music group sang to the accompaniment of a prepared CD from Love Russia. We were pleased to send a gift as a thank you to Love Russia to support their vital work with vulnerable children in the former Soviet Union

12-13 March 2005 - 138th Anniversary Celebration

We celebrated our 138th Anniversary with a great wekend of fun and Worship. Paul Asterley from Turner's Hill Free Church led our services, speaking on the call to service. He illustrated his message by reference to Joshua and Moses, and involved the whole church as he spoke to the children.

... for Moses to part so that the People of Israel can cross.

Paul Getting excited

Paul also spoke at our dinner on Saturday night - it was good to hear his message and see him get excited about things...

9 January 2005 - New Year

We're adopting as our motto for 2005 a verse from 1 Peter 3:15

In your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.

8th Jan 2006 - A New Year

A new motto for a new year

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

30th Sept 2006 - Stakeholders' Meeting

Saturday 30th Sept. 2006
2:00 p.m.

A meeting for all who have an interest in the church, what it does, and what it should be doing.

This was a great afternoon considering what the church does well, what it might do better, and what it might do differently. Nick Oborki from Knaphill Methodist Church did a superb job of chairing the meeting. We also had tea!
