Our Pastor - Rev Gordon Steer
 |
Gordon became a Christian at Rustington in
1973. After training at Elim Bible College and Spurgeons
College he entered the Baptist ministry in 1980 serving at
Portslade and Dormansland.
He holds a strong belief in the Bible as
God's word to us and considers that Bible study, loving
fellowship and honest prayer are the practical foundations of
the Christian life.
Gordon is married to Ruth and has two grown
up children, Alex and Beth. Ruth teaches special needs. Alex
and Beth are at Uni.
He is an enthusiastic conservative
evangelical who supports the renewal movement with its
emphasis on Biblical living and personal holiness. This is
reflected in his views on true worship being from the heart
rather than in one particular form or another. As Jesus said,
"By their fruits you shall know them." |

As a pastor he places strong emphasis on
sincere repentance and faith in Christ being the way to
salvation. He also puts great emphasis on our being a caring
fellowship and on the need for down-to-earth preaching to
encourage us in our everyday life and witness for Jesus. A
sadness for Gordon is that so many people never really enter
into the great adventure of following Jesus. "Christianity
has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found
difficult and not tried."-- G. K. Chesterton

of last week's sermon was lifted from Scripture, and no, I
don't consider that plagiarism"
